Most likely, my father would have gone the same way as his father, who died three days before the Russians arrived. Having survived such terrors, my father returned to Hungary and normality, until one day he went to the horse races with a girlfriend and met my mother, Eniko. Chatting as the races ran behind them, William fell for Eniko that afternoon and after a whirlwind romance, they married on 21 October 1956, two days before the start of the Hungarian Revolution. For years, the Soviet-appointed government had oppressed, tortured, executed and deported tens of thousands of its countrymen.

We started playing junior high school dances, our set comprising mainly of Grand Funk Railroad tracks. I organized all the gigs, did all the promo, made all the posters and stuck them up. , so I'd get my mother to write me a note to leave school early so that I could prepare. 'I don't know if this is right,' she'd say, but she never said no. I wanted to put on a gig at my junior high. Realizing that things weren't working out with Bruce and the guys, I put my own band together for the gig. I called in this kid Steven Franklin who played drums.
